A new technique uses microneedles incorporated into permanent or semi-permanent medical devices -- such as glucose monitors. The researchers found that modifying the surface of a microneedle with an antimicrobial coating both prevented microbial growth and did not adversely affect skin cell growth. 8)

I do not find the present size of needle much of a problem, but I do find some much easier to push in than others, even from the same box ... I guess it is something to do with the lubricant applied to the needle or rather the lack of it in some instances.
