Good morning I have had my first HbA1c test on the 5th of January now nothing was said about when the next one will be,I will make an appointment with my doctor soon, but I was wondering would the doctor agree to me having another one when I would like one,or is their a strict procedure for your second HbA1c test.Thank you:)

They are usually spaced 6 months apart. Not much to be gained by having them close together as the test measures BG over a period of 2 or 3 months. Your own BG tests are probably more useful in showing how your levels are going.

HbA1c tests show your average glucose levels over the previous 2 to 3 months, so there is no point in having another one until at least April. Mine are 6 monthly and I get a letter calling me in. When I was first diagnosed 3 years ago I had my second and third tests at 3 monthly intervals and was then moved to 6 monthly.

It depends how recently diagnosed, and how well controlled you are.
I was three, then sixth months initially, now I wait for the surgery to drag me in for my annual review.

My progress was similar to yours (not quite as much progress as you made) and I was able to have another one after 3 months, I would ask if that was possible, I think your next one will be lower than mine from all your excellent readings.

Usually after your initial diagnosis you get retested after 3 months, after that it depends on your surgery. Mine only does it every 12 months. But if you have very high bs levels, or they think you are 'non-compliant' (not following their advice) they might test you every 3 or 6 months.
My GP wants me to take my next HbA1c 6 months after my last, not because of my bs, but she is concerned about my cholesterol level which went up to 6.1 with the lchf. I did point out to her that the ratios had actually got better as had my 'good' cholesterol HDL figure.
Still I am quite happy to get another test after only 6 months.

nhs.uk says 3 months initially and every 6 months when under good control. However, some surgeries will prefer annual checks for the latter, possibly to save money or just thinking they are not really required.

@wiseowl_123 - Good Afternoon :). If at all you have any problems concerning your Diabetes? Don't wait until your next 3 or 6 monthly review - make an appointment to see your GP or Diabetes Nurse.

Good afternoon @Liam1955 my friend thank you,yes it wouldn't hurt would it.at the very least I would get some idea of what the surgery@s plans and procedures are,I shall visit the surgery on Monday:)
