Last year I ended up in hospital with ketoacidosis in a terrible state, my diabetes care was taken over by the team at the hospital. Since then I have been told to avoid injecting in previous injection sites. What an absolute game changer, long lasting insulin has reduced from 24 to 18 units and the average amount of quick acting decreased from 14 to 7 units a day. On top of all that I have gained 3 stone in weight (which was needed) I was less than 7 stone at one point. The point of this post is for all those struggling, which I certainly was, if you aren't happy with your diabetes care, try change and get your care somewhere else. 3 times I ended up in hospital with ketoacidosis, and the last time nearly was my last.

So glad you have managed to get the care you need and your situation has improved so much.

Can I ask, who was looking after your diabetes care before? Just your GP? When I lived in the UK (admittedly last century) it was normal for T1s to be under the care of a hospital team.

I'm so sorry that you had to almost die to get the care you need but congratulations on the turn around.

My care was with my GP before whom I only ever saw 4 times in 8 years.

All my GPs (in 3 countries) have been happy to leave my diabetes care to an endocrinologist.... Most freely admitted that they didn't know much about T1.
