hi, my 10yr old niece has just been diagnosed with t1d very poorly girl at the moment, my nephew her dad is in a state but also worrying about the finances ect , i wandered what extra help was available to a single father raising his daughter.
he does work full time, and at present is in privatly rented accommedation and has no financial help, he is worried about taking time off if tegan needs it and obviously her medical needs and dietry needs will increase, lots of people have an opinion but i wanted to get some advise from people who would know the facts having pos been there themselves. he has been told he has a much better chance of obtaining a council property now and that he may get a higher rate child tax credit also she may be entitled to dla, its all very confusing and trying to get his head around the fact his baby girl has this is proveing hard for him to handle, please if anyone can give advise it would be very welcome, many thanks in advance, dids[/b]

Sorry, I don't know for sure but I would contact Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them. As for medical costs, if UK based, there is no cost but he may be entitled to expenses or something for travel.

Morning, your post is so sad, I'm truly sorry. Here's where all the help you need on finances is, phone THE NATIONAL DEBT HELP LINE. You can find the number from google.

The citizens advice isn't the best place, they're over run with incoming calls and the depth of knowledge isn't that great. The national debt help line is a charity so they're waiting for your call and they know what you can claim for and what to do about any bills that your relative may have such as loans, mortgages, credit cards etc. They split debts into priority and non priority debts - who to pay, who not to pay. They'll give you a reference number so that each time his call comes in they know all about him. Please trust me on this, the sooner he calls them the sooner he can stop worrying. He will be on the phone for about 35-40 minutes, he needs to have details of all his loans, debts and details of all incomes which includes any benefits. They need to do an I/E - income and expenditure and they can tell him what he maybe entitled to, what debts he can legally drop or cut, be sure to have all the details ready to hand so they can work things out for him. I put a client and a friend in touch with these people and they all came back with excellent reports compared to the C. Advice. My friend was able to cut outgoings and found out there was a DWP benefit she was entitled to, the have up to the second knowledge on your entitlements. Its all free advice and service, Let us know then, kind wishes, Q..

I believe he may be entitled to some form of carers allowance until she reaches an age where she can self manage, I know others on this forum have successfully claimed this for a dependant child with T1.
