Night Duty

Hi All,

On occasions I have to work night duty. Regular breaks cannot always be guaranteed and I bring meals from home as there are no facilities at work for purchasing meals in any case. It is often the case that, no breaks are able to be taken, during the shift. Does anyone have advice on managing this?

Hi,

I don't know if you eat average, low or very low carb, so I'll avoid naming specific foods (but can give you low carb suggestions, if you want).

My husband does grim late and early shifts, on rotation, and this is what we do:

He always has a stash of snacks with long use by dates.
He has a flask that serves as a mug, containing a hot drink already made up.
And a bottle of water, for when that runs out.
He takes a lunch box with finger food that he can grab on the run.
In the winter, he takes a widemouth flask with stew or soup.

Sometimes, he takes two meals worth, for a long, awkward shift.

It takes some organisation, but it's worth it. He has a safety critical job that requires sustained concentration, so can't afford post meal slumps and reduced performance through hunger.
