Night/morning hypos

Mind you when your partner is back testing and using insulin there is no reason really why a bar of choc ( mini size best-not a family one-lol!!!) cant be ate.

Partner just needs to get a balance if lower levels.. And injecting.

I eat everything, but slways test n inject. In fact I said to my mum (78) last weekend .. Thanks for not treating me any different- as I was on my 2nd helping of a belated xmas pud!!! Difference being I test n give insulin ( on a pump!).

Its not to treat partner as an invalud, but as you are doing.. Supporting him. Longterm wise you will have to give up asking things like.. Have u tested" etc.. But what a great partner you are.

I also had to tell my mum last year to stop asking me when I saw her if I was liw ir high...i told her 99% of time I was normal and she was irritating the s**t out of me for 30 years adking me when she saw me 4 times a year. Told her if she that concerned she should philone me at 3am every mirning and 8 times a day when I did it when she not around!! - she has never asked since !! Lol!!

Haha!! I can imagine that getting pretty annoying! Well he has had 10 years of diabetes and eating what he wants so far! He said since he's been keeping his sugar low, he hasn't been craving chocolate much! So if he would prefer not to, then well done to him. Although last night we did have a Cadbury's pot of joy, but done enough insulin to compensate, so no problem there! It's just before he would only do lantus rarely and sneak choc and sweets when I wasn't there, I did say eat it, but inject it's fine.

I think all the time we are trying to figure out his ratios at the moment it's best to avoid chocolate and stuff? Just cos he is having so many lows and stuff. I don't know I could be wrong!

In all honesty I didn't think it would be this hard to keep a steady level, and find out how much is enough, not enough etc! Seems like it's going to be a long process haha xx

Agree, whilst trying to start afresh best to keep to basic foods and have a treat etc when off. I count a hypo as a treat, as 7 dolly mixtures on daily foods is a treat if I go low.

Medicines and treatments are changing so much nowadays, it maybe that long term he may consider a pump?

If you having trouble with say lowering insulin a whole unit pushes up too high bgs, it may be that partner could ask for pens that do 1/2 unit doses...

It won't be that long till balanced. Honest.

Just wondering, I had a night hypo on Saturday for no reason whatsoever. Instead of testing upstairs and drinking lucozade by the bed I walked downstairs tested at 3.2 then had a slice of Madeira cake and a small glass of milk, ( so wrong) I hate milk I hardly ever hypo for a start, tested 5.4 in morning my questions are does anyone else have cravings when hypo and take risks by not waking anyone and going downstairs to deal with it alone?

There are many people with diabetes who live alone and have no option other than try to manage a hypo on their own. Same with a seizure or similar. All I can suggest is that where ever we as individuals are we need to be as prepared as possible. For instance I have glucotabs in every room in the house, testing it,is in my study etc. It is a concern for me when I read if what is occurring and happening to others, but it is a case of some planning and then best endeavours.

I have an open container of dolly mixtures on my bedside cabinet. Easy to grab 7 and go back to sleep within seconds...
