Been Type 2 since 2000. Managed using metformin and rapaglinide. Morning values generally 5.5 - 6.5. Hb1Ac generally around 6.5. Started having night sweats last fortnight with sheets sometimes soaking wet. Seems to be linked with low morning values below 5.5. Anyone had similar?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Yes, it's a very common thing with me. Sweats are usually accompanied by nightmares (or at best very vivid dreams) and waking. I found (through using a CGM) that it goes with a steep drop in my blood glucose somewhere around 4-5am. This is invariably and immediately followed by a "dawn phenomenon" rise that quickly goes back to the starting levels and beyond. All A1cs have been 38mmol/mol or lower for three years, normal fasted morning readings low to mid fives mmol/l. Diet only, never been on any medication.

This started for me around 2014 when my A1c was in the mid 40mmol/mol. Frequency has dropped off a lot since my levels have been back in normal range, but it tends to come and go for periods of weeks. This is the annoying bit - I can't find anything to explain why it appears and disappears. At the minute, it's sweats most nights, interrupted sleep and a soaked t shirt in the morning.

I can't really explain this - it just seems to be something my liver does for reasons of its own.

I've been having these sweats & waking up during the night for some time, prior to formal diagnosis this year. I'd been putting it down to 'hormones' even though I'm long past menopause. Now checking the newly installed Libre sensor chart I can see that my BG takes a massive dive during the night, reaching a low of around 4 around 3am, followed by a steep rise in the dawn liver dump. Morning levels before breakfast are around 6.5 - 7. I take my Metformin with the evening meal at night. Usually the rising BG (or the cat, whichever gets me first!) disturbs my sleep and I wake up. I look forward to the day when I can have a whole nights sleep uninterrupted.

Please seek advice from GP.
There are all sorts of reasons for night sweats. Not just diabetes causing them.

Thanks everyone. They've gone for nnow; no idea if they'll be back.As Pipp says, there could be all sorts of reasons. In my case I'm beginnning to suspect it might even be the tog value of the duvet!!
