Hi, my 10 year old son has been type 1 since august last year. All has been going well until the last week. His blood sugars have been great through the day then it gets to bedtime and it shoots up with or without supper. It's like he's back to pre-diagnosis and up within an hour of going to sleep to go to the toilet. Been giving him a correction dose but even that's not taking him right down- he's still on very small doses of nova rapid-he's absolutely exhausted- just feel like we're back to square one :-((

Hi Jules_84,

Who said diabetes was predictable? Do you have a specialist (at the hospital or GP's surgery) that you can ask for advice?

So soon after diagnosis and also going through growth spurts etc it isn't easy.

It may well be because your son may need different doses for school holidays or school days. There's a few parents around that struggle with levels on school hols.....
Do speak to your health experts about this asap... As they will be able to see from your records and doses on how to adjust them...

Hi, we've been experiencing highs before supper too, my son is almost 14, been diagnosed Feb.this year.
His endo made some adjustments on his back ground insulin, and increased his I:C ratio. So far my son's BG were in normal range. You should really contact your Doctor or DSN for proper insulin adjustment.

Thank you for your advice- we have spoken to his dsn and have adjusted his background insulin and now he's back at school his readings are looking a lot better :-)

Good to hear your son's level are back on track!
Well, for us we're on a rollercoaster again, BG are all over the place, and it was like less than 2 weeks since his doctor made adjustment on his insulin needs. Unfortunately, we couldn't get our doctor til end of this month because she's on leave.Good heaven!
