Night time nausea

Hi, just wanted to ask about extreme bouts of night time nausea.

I was diagnosed T2 in 2008 and have been under very good control with metformin and diet ever since but I keep getting these bouts of extreme nausea, where I am about to be sick but nothing happens. I get the sweats, rapid heart rate, shaking all when I am trying to get to sleep. These can last up to four hours and comes in waves were I will get about half an hour feeling better then it all starts again. I also have a real big phobia of being sick

Would this be related to diabetes or something completely different. I might also be having night time hypos because I wake up some mornings with a bad headache

Thanks in advance, if someone has any advice I'd be really grateful

Hi Carol

You are unlikely to experience hypos if your only medication is metformin. Metformin does not prompt the body to produce more insulin but makes your naturally produced insulin more effective.

The symptoms you relate could be caused by a number of conditions including cardiac issues and autonomic dysfunction so I would suggest that you discuss them with your GP.

Take care and have a good 2013

I have had similar symptoms, in my case it was due to drinking to much strong coffee, perculated of course.

I no longer drink any caffeine, and no longer have any symptoms. Just a thought.
