Sorry I just need to vent a bit

Went for my check up today and was told i had gained a lot of weight over a stone,(which sent me downhill fast) The nurse didn't have a go
I have been doing what they told me to do. I watch what i eat, exercise everyday 30 to 45 mins on the wi fit plus walking extra to and from work. I felt in myself that i had lost weight. I keep my levels in control (morning 4.9-5.4 bedtime 7-8)I have even dropped a couple of dress sizes. So what am i doing wrong. I can honestly say "what the hell".

They keep on testing for thyroid problems but tell me that its normal, My last hba1c was 5.9

Has anyone got any ideas :(

What medication are you on?
If you are exercising 30 - 45 mins a day you might gain some weight (muscle is heavier than fat, which is why weight as a measure of health is not always useful) but I don't know of that would account for a stone in weight.

If you know your clothes are smaller (not just because you're buying smaller clothes now as they mess around with standard sizing no end to flatter customers, but because clothes that were previously snug are now loose) I'd be tempted to get weighed on a different set of scales. It's possible that the surgery scales are needing calibrated, most hospital equipment is checked for accuracy once a year but I'm not sure all GP practices work to that standard.

When you're doing your walking and wii stuff what impact is it having on your breath? I just read a booklet that described the Talk Test - if you can sing whilst you're moving you need to up the pace, if you can't sing but could talk ok then that's about right, if you can't talk it's too much.

It is dispiriting if you're doing all the right stuff and it doesn't seem to be working but that sounds a bit improbable here so get a second opinion on your weight.

Do you have your own scales at home? I have quite a good set, which are consistent even though they weigh 8lb over. I know this because I get my cousin to weigh herself before she comes on her practice scales (she works there) and then check mine. I work to the higher weight, though!

I find that by weighing once a week I can check my rate of loss (or not!). I'm not worried about my actual weight, (that doesn't bear thinking about  ) just that I'm losing. So then if I do get on the scales at my practice and they differ greatly from mine, I can shrug it off because I'm sticking wih mine.

It does sound to me that the practice scales were wrong, unless you''ve gained a lot of muscle. You weren't carrying your handbag, were you? Happened to a friend of mine - her handbag weighed 10lb!

And of course there's fluid retention and time of the month - that used to do a good half-stone, with me.

It's worth keeping a note of your measurements, as well, once a month or so. They tell the truth.

It could be something as simple as writing down 9st 8 instead of 8st 9, or similar in kilograms. Human error!

Don't let it get you down - you know what's happening to your dress sizes etc.

hi beebee
i have been losing weight at the rate of 2lb / wk last 3 weeks .Got on the scales today :( put it all back on .Was really happy until this happend
i have stuck to a diet. Gave up drinking lager . To end up back to the start :!:
I feel like i'm wasting my time however my t-shirts are hanging of me were my bear belly used to be so somethings workin.
(we all have crosses to bare just sum are heavier than others) stick in there. :D

I was all smiles and happy before christmas, when I had lost another 3 kilos but then I went to my diatitian after and to my horror not only did the scales tell me I had regained my 3 kilos, but that I had gained an extra 3 kilos!!! The very next day I had an appointment with my diabetes doctor and on his scales I was 3 kilos lighter so I only put the 3 kilos back on over christmas that I had lost before.... My own scales at home told me the same as my diabetes doctor's scales...
