Hello
Ive been taking Metformin(SR) since the 3rd Jan this year.
Started on 1 x 500mg a day for 7 days then upped to 1G per day.
My HBA1C came back as no improvement on Metformin (dont know what the level is now) Mt last HBA1C was 7.8%
Im not due to see my Diabetes Nurse until the 27th also my LFT (LIVER) is raised
Could this be due to the Metformin and what do you think they will try next :?:
I dont test as I was told I didnt need too but I think thats down to cost.
I have to have an ultrasound on my Liver

Hi

The raised liver enzymes may be indicative of fatty liver disease which is quite common in people with diabetes. The ultrasound will show if you have it. The following link will give you more information on that condition: http://www.britishlivertrust.org.uk/hom ... -nash.aspx

I hope this gives you a bit more information about possibilities. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Regards

Doug

Thanks Doug
The link you posted was very interesting and has answered quite a few concerns I had, esp recent bruising for no reason and the tiredness Ive been feeling.
I phoned this morning and the appt for my Liver ultrasound is Tomorrow at 09.30, will let you know how I get on.
Many Thanks

Regards
Linda

Went for my appt with the Diabetes Nurse kate, ive to stop the Metformin and start a new tablet called Glimepiride and start testing and keeping a diary.
My Sugars at the Surgery were 10.4 and that was an hour after my evening meal after taking Metformin! When I got home and 2 hours after (which is one of the times ive got to test) it was 11.4!
Ive got to aim between 5.5 and 7.5.
I have Fatty liver disease and they discovered a 9.5mm stone in my Gallbladder.

Hi serendipity,

out of interest, what was the evening meal and did you take a reading beforehand?

My meal was at about 18.00 tonight and as a veggie I had handful cooked carrots, sprouts and Broccoli and 2 quorn sausages.
Took a 1000mg tablet of Metformin too. No reading beforehand (wasnt testing then) as my appt wasnt until 18.50 and she said to have a couple of goe's tonight when home.

So meal at 18.00
Test at Surgery was around 19.20 and 10.4
Test at home 20.20 11.4
Havnt tested since and have been given a sheet on when to test which is at Breakfast.
Never had to test before now so a bit strange and scary.
