Recently I reached out and asked for help with my diabetes management. I felt I had lapsed. I managed to get an appointment with my consultant and had a chat about my concerns. He ordered blood tests for testosterone levels and said he would organise an appointment with the diabetic specialist nurse and that he would put it through as urgent. This was a month ago and still nothing. Last week i rang the diabetic nurse to see of she knew anything about my appointment. She said ahe didnt know anything about it professional. Today I have tried chasing it up again but nothing everyone I have phoned has just passed the buck and told me you need to phone this person then that person says phone this person. I am fed up with it all. It's getting me down. I feel let down and that I am just a number. I've reached the end now. I don't know where to go from here.

My nhs gp computers are down in the north-east. Could you have been brushed off due to computers?
My scan pictures saved ok at my appointment, or at least it looked that way.

I hope just a bad day for their department. Try them again on Wednesday?

Is there anything we can help you with?

I'm sorry it is getting you down.

I would suggest speaking to the consultant's secretary to see if the referal was sent and get a copy of the letter yourself. Many people ask and get copied into letters these days to prevent this kind of thing happening.

I did ring the consultants secretary and she said the referral had been sent. Then I rang up the healthy living centre where I would be going to see the diabetic nurse and they had no record of anything

Think I'm going through diabetes burnout and I think complications maybe occurrng with my eyes and in the bedroom department. I want to try and stop it in its tracks before it gets worse or reverse it if it' not to late.

Can you tell us which type of diabetes you have, and which medications you are on?

Hello @leinadsedalb When you say you have lapsed what do you mean exactly ? Are you randomly testing, injecting, guessing carbs, that type of thing ? Have you done any courses like 'Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating' ?

In regards to your care within the NHS it can feel like pillar to post, however if you have under lying anxiety with your condition then this is going to magnify it, tomorrow call up your nurse again, ask them simply for a date, don't wait for a referral, ask their next availability, tell them you are type 1 and need to see them asap and tell them you are struggling, so aim to get an appointment instead of chasing a non existent referral.

In the meantime get yourself a copy of 'Think like a pancreas' off Amazon, it's the most important tool as a type 1 you can get and will help build your knowledge. As a forum we can help support you and I know things feel bad at the moment, but it's at times like this that you need to find your inner strength to pick yourself up and get exactly what you need to help you manage better, take it one day at a time, we have all been there at some point so I hope tomorrow's call get's a date in the diary sorted for you.
