Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
Treatment type
I do not have diabetes
Hi everyone.
I'm 25, recently went for a health checkup, conducted a bloodtest and I was found to have 38 mg/dL blood sugar level, which is supposedly to be dangerously low. I am not found to be diabetic, however. Scheduled for further tests but een feeling really worried and from all the things I've read online anything below 54 mg/dL is an immediate cause for concern? Possible fainting and seizures? I don't have those symptoms, but I'm really concerned. Anyone else has this too? It's extra stressful when my circadian rhythm is terrible. Only been able to sleep from 11pm for an hour or two and I can't fall asleep until its 6am. I'm setting up an appt to meet an endicronologist later, but wanna hear if anyone has this same issue.

Regards

Welcome syamilatte
I'm assuming that the test was done with a glucose meter and a drop of blood from a finger prick. Did they
re do the test to confirm that extremely low level.
To be honest I'm doubting the accuracy of that result, 38 mg/dl is 2.1 mmol/l in the units we use in the UK.
At that level you would be practically comatose, you say you had no symptoms, so you didn't feel unwell.
I really don't think you would be able to function with blood sugar that low. My guess would be a faulty glucose meter or test strip.

Ah, that's reassuring to hear, although it was not from a glucose meter (I might be wrong). Got my blood drawn for a full three syringes at a clinic. Not sure if they used a glucose meter, though I doubt it. I did read that my levels I should be experiencing symptoms. Could the fact be that I'm not diabetic mean that's why I'm not experiencing the symptoms?

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Did you get a printout of your blood tests?
I also believe that the test results have been skewed somehow.
If your levels were that low, you would probably need hospital treatment.

I would go back to your doctor to clear this up.

I am not diabetic, I have serious hypos if I don't control my blood glucose levels. You would certainly feel it! Especially that low!

Has your doctor suggested further testd?

Keep safe.

Skewed? What do you mean?
I initially went to a cardiologist thinking I had cardiac issues, however after the screening it turned out I have low blood sugar. So he referred me to see an endocrinologist.

The symptoms of low blood sugar have got nothing to do with diabetes. Our brains use sugar for energy, without that energy they just shut down. So slurring your words, unable to think clearly and concentrate, just like being drunk, eventually unconsciousness and possibly death.
For someone with diabetes, low blood sugar is not caused by the diabetes it is cause by the medication.
