No Diabetic Support system :(

I used to go to my local hospital and it was great. The doctors cared, the nurses asked and the nutrisionist was friendly. Then i got moved to my local GP, which is a PCT and diabetic speacilist clinic... which by the way i do not believe. They have no suppoert system.

I went to see my Doctor today with some very important questions i wanted to ask, how do i get onto the DAFNE Course, is a pump available in this region, my medical certificate has ran out i need a renewal and the opticians gave me a letter to give to you, they say i am bleeding in my right eye and it needs urgent attention.

So yeah i had a list (i've asked her everytime i've seen her before and she never answers the questions, it was only when my work colleagues told me to write everything down and then go back to see her, that i did), i took time off work to see my doctor, first thing she said to me was that she doesnt have much time and i can only talk about one thing and nothing else. she was blunt, rude and didnt even look at me much. So from my list i picked the most serious thing, the bleeding... she took the letter, said "hmm, well you have a eye check up soon, they'll pick up on it then" which by the way it's on 30th June, i hope my eye does not drop out) and shooed me out the office. I'm not complaining about just today, she does this everytime, has no time for me whatsoever and i fell very alone with my diabetes. I miss the support system, the open door feeling. This doctor is very old and my problem is i respect my elders. i'm due to see her next week and I know i'll lose it and end up screaming at her.

What can i do? is there a way of changing back to the hospital?

Has anyone else got a terrible doctor and what have you done?

I would not accept that sort of attitude from a doctor.

You should make a complaint to the practice manager about her attitude to you and either change doctor's to a more diabetic friendly one or contact the clinic that you were at, explain the situation and ask if you can be transferred back there.

Absolutely - make a formal complaint about the ****** treatment, demand to be referred back to the hospital and change your GP. They have a duty to address your concerns and they are obviously failing. If you have to be a pain in the bum to get the results you need, then so be it. As for respecting your elders, I'm pleased to hear that some people still do that. But respect has to earned. Being old doesn't necessarily mean being wise, it just means being old!
Good luck - hope you get it sorted out soon.

Thank you for your responses! I don't feel as alone anymore.

sugarless sue - I have made a formal complaint with the practice, they didn't let me see the practice manager but I did fill in a form explaining my issues. Thank you for encouraging me to do that!

I made it my priority to leave this practice. Ever since I can remember I always assumed you had to stay with your current GP and if you did move, whatever was assigned to you is what you had to have.

I found a perfect GP that has an awesome Diabetic clinic and I am so happy with them. It didn't take long to register, even the registering process was great, the receptionists were friendly, the help pack they gave me was very useful and this is the best bit... i can book appointments & repeat prescriptions online! I have never been with such an advance GP, their building is so user friendly and they have chairs that don't have a piece of cardboard attached to a leg to balance it out! Its smells clean too!

The Doctor is so friendly, helpful and actually listens to me. He has said that I am see him again after i have my blood tests and go over the DAFNE course, he was shocked that I have been asking for years and nothing has happened. He did ask how I managed my Diabetes and keep my sugars low and i mentioned that it was all down to the great forum here and the community feeling I get.

Its a whole new world for me and I thank you all for it! :D :D :D

I finally believe I can better my diabetes :D

Shivani,

Sounds like things are moving in a positive direction for you! :)

Good luck with your new practise and hope you enjoy the DAFNE course and come away with a wealth of new knowledge.

Wow, congratulations on scoring a better doctor! I'm really glad your persistence paid off. And I'm really jealous of you being able to order your scrip online... :-)
good luck on your dafne course.
