For a good 5 years before I was a type 2 diabetic I would get shaky, sweaty and incoherent when I went too long without eating. Once diagnosed and using a bg meter I found that if my bg fell below 4.5% then I would go shaky, sweaty and incoherent. I was told by the doctor that they weren't really hypos as on either diet only or diet and metformin I couldn't go hypo. Yet 4.5% and I had some of the symptoms. The doctor once when cross with me telling him about it said 'blood sugar can go below 4% you know'.
Since I've been on the low carb regime (under 50 grams - at the moment under 20 as my weight loss had stalled) I know he's right. My bg can go down to 3 - I've even had a 2.5 - which I checked as I was feeling very slightly 'off'.
I also have chronic fatigue syndrome and would usually sleep at least 12 hours a night and often have a sleep during the day too - which doesn't leave a lot of time to do much. Now I have about 10 hours tops. Sometimes I split it and have 8 hours at night and a couple of hours during the day. Believe me it makes a lot of difference to my social life  . Especially as I'm hospital visiting with my dad every afternoon at the moment.
Has anyone else found that their bg can go lower on a low carb diet than on a low fat etc. one?
