No more Glucophage

I have been taking 30 Diamicron MR (slow releasing) and Glucophage (metformin) 850mg x 3 a day. I stopped taking the Glucophage myself for over a week now as I was feeling very tired and sick on them. I still took the 30 Diamicron MR in the morning and with cutting out all the major carbs I was getting results from 4 to 8 depending on what I had been eating.

I went to my GP today and told her this and she has decided to take me off the Glucophage as she was happy with the results I was getting by just being on the Diamicron and looking after what I ate. She has upped my Diamicron from 30mg to 60mg daily just to help bring it down a little more. So hopefully that will do the trick.

Yay! I am so happy to be off the Glucophage. I wasn't sure if my GP would be annoyed that I stopped taking them off my own bat, but she seemed pleased that I am trying my best to control my BG without the Glucophage. I so want to work hard at this so I can even reduce the Diamicron.

Yay me! :D

All sounds good........are you aware that Gliclazide (Diamicron) is a very effective weight gain pill...?
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you also trying to lose weight ???

It was one of the reasons I kept putting on weight, despite my diet. At leat until I reduced then stopped it. So you will need to be even more careful with your carb intake if it is being increased. Personally I would have cut the Glic and stayed with the Met, but asked for the slow release version. All versions of Met have weight loss as one of it's possible side effects.

Oh right, I didn't know that. I will see how I go for this month as I see her again at the end of the month and may suggest the slow release met.
