No more pumping for now.

I used to think same for time whirring all the time.... But it is so much more precise than pen bolus's....
However, this morn. Woke up to a level of 5.5... Just waiting now ...to see how much Waking is going to affect me....

Amazed that I have been so hugely awake all night.... I've not been like this for decades. Literally buzzing to get up...it's as if I'm actually 'high' from coming off aspartame....
 
Never used aspartamine.....always saccharin (Sweetex) for the past 49yrs with no ill effects that I can think of
 
Well, after 2 years of debating with myself i have finally told my nurse i want off the pump. I am giving it back next week. Having the horrible minimed 640g was the final push along with the failed infusion sets time after time. I have asked about Tresiba but have been told it's not widely prescribed due to cost... I shall argue the point that it is much cheaper than the pump, esp with the amount of infusion sets i've been getting through. My TDD is 30u of both basal and bolus so it's not like I'll be needing gallons of the stuff.

DD I am really happy to read how positive you are sounding. I love not sleeping with my pump and nice to go to the loo not worrying about tubing etc
 
I wonder if we should bring INPUT into this issue. INPUT have historically been about access to pumps, but there's not a lot of point advocating for access to pumps, if low quality experiences of pumping drive people to hand the pumps back. Maybe INPUT could get involved for campaigning on pump quality standards, particularly on infusion sets. The common factor with all of us "pump refuseniks" has been recurring infusion set failures.

IHs it appears that my intolerance is to anything with sweetener..unless it is a natural sweetener like honey...

Just doing 30 min tests to see how waking affects me.. So far gone to 7.2 30 mins after waking.

I found with using Lantus about 9pm every night that its effect on bg was about 5hrs later causing really low bg about 2-3am in the morning until I adjusted the dose downwards a fair bit. By late morning about 10am, bg would rise up a lot so I just adjusted the bolus at breakfast time to give more so that worked ok. Lunchtime wasnt too bad but did need to eat a small snack mid afternoon to prevent the hypo feeling about 4pm. Eve meal....no effect from Lantus at all so needed to use a lsrge bolus to get me ok before bed and using Lantus again at 9pm. Eventually switched to Levemir twice daily so had basal controlling background a bit better and less bolus conrolling the meals. It was only trying to get tighter bg control to get the GPs Hba1c target of 6.5% and getting hypos and OH getting concerned, that made me think seriously about having a pump.
 

I think that's a fantastic idea! The companies get away with cost cutting because nobody reports them to do anything about it. A little while ago I found a box of old insets (3 years older) and the difference in quality was obvious for anyone to see. Such a shame.
 
Lantus twice daily, bed time and wake up time, works a treat for me.
 
I also found a difference in the quality of the plastic white spring mechanism on the Inset IIs made in 2008 to how the springs are made nowadays but on saying that, the present batches of sets are locking and releasing the springs ok until .......next time. The Inset 30s dont seem to have any problems but again they are easy to insert in the tummy or leg but the rear end needs a bit of help from OH to pull the introducer out ok or me stand in front of a mirror with another behind me, so that I can see what I am doing and pull the adhesive off ok.

Im really grateful to have found this thread thank you for starting it. Ive been told should things change you can reapply for funding. But will cross that bridge if it ever happens. Just have to work on the nurse and letting me give trisiba a whirl. If not 2 x levemir is good enough.

Well.. Have gone up to 12.8 3 hours after getting up!!! And thats been working hard gardening too!!

Not worried.. Glad to hear what others are doing.. Have done. Am going to amend doses later when I get home. I did have a 1 unit correction as well when I had gone up to 8 (before the 12.8 reading) so my waking DP is still horrendous!! -lol!!

Just emailed consultant and told her I could not wait till 24th so am muddling along in the interim.

Ow... Why did you dislike the 640g...? I got mine a week ago and have been running saline all this week - start with insulin tomorrow...

The pump itself is ok buy i wanted a smaller pump than my combo was and i had the veo briefly til they made me switch. That was great but the 640g was too big and heavy for my liking. I just cant get on with it. Most people love it seems its just me

Ah... I can understand that, especially as a female I think it's more important to us... I have to say I do think it's quite big/heavy -- but it's also my first pump and I've no comparison. I also would add I think the clip is totally rubbish and just adds my bulk... If I didn't know about belts and hadn't bought one before I got my pump then that side of things would be really bothering me too. As it is my belt is super comfy and so I'm happy with the options of wearing it that it gives me

Well, on my pump I was so finely tuned that levels never raised after meals and that was generally bolusing the minute I ate if above 5.0 if below I did a lag.
Have done bolus for food tonight but leaving 30 mins before I eat... Its seems like an eternity!!! -lol
Everytime I have been to loo or got in car ir sat down today I've got so used to feeling the sets that despite them not being there I've got in to the habit of expecting them to be. Even to the point oglf pulling my skorts up and pulling them out slightly to avoid a non existant set.. Guess this habit will take a while to break!!
Levels stayed at 12's n 11's all day (despite correcting) so am splitting evening and morning dose of lantus as of tonight.

Still so glad to unhitch despite higher levels.

Asking GP tomorrow morn to give me a couple cartridges of levimir and novorapid to get me thru to seeing DSN at hospital in 9 days time.
