No reaction to Novorapid.

Hello.

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 41 years. Recently (past 6 - 8 weeks, perhaps longer) I have noticed that my blood sugar does not react after dosing Novorapid. (My understanding is that between 30 - 90 minutes afterward is when you'll witness the effect.)

Overall, I feel well and exercise lightly for 1 hour per day, and only after this does my blood sugar drop.

Recently I have changed my Insulin to carb ratio and its currently at 1 unit per 5g of carbs (which I feel is a historically high ratio for myself.)

At present I dosed over 1 hour ago and my bloods have risen steadily on my libreview.

I'm looking for advice and whether or not I should seek a call from my diabetes team.

Thank you for any help, and best wishes.

I found that Novorapid was far from rapid, in fact before I changed I was often finding my blood sugar suddenly started to drop after 4 hours or so (having been higher than it shoulda been for said 4 hours).
I changed to Fiasp which I find much better, though I do still have days where it seems sluggish

Hi @Craftsmanpaul ,

Welcome to the forum.

Always a good idea to seek a chat with your D team.

It does sometimes depend on what you dosed for? Any change in the last 6-8 weeks in what you might normally eat?
Possibly choice of injection site & slower absorption rate? It can be easy to hoik up a shirt & hit the same spot..

Though thinking about it, have you tried a different batch of Novorapid, maybe the one youre currently using is a bit iffy

Hello Rokaab & Jaylee.

Thank you both for your input.

I'm going to make contact with my Diabetic team.

As at this moment I'm lost for a reason for this change. I appreciate the advice given and am confident that both the batch, and injection sites, have changed. Whereas diet has not.

My initial fears were that I may have become immune, or partially immune to Novorapid which I do not know the consequences of this should it be so.

I'll try and update after any input from the team.

I'm grateful for the help received.

Best wishes.

Hi Kaylz91.

No I have not, nor do i know what this means? Can you point me in the direction where i can get some more information on this.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Which long acting insulin are you prescribed?

@kaylz91 refers to this.. Basically checking the insulin running in the background is the right dosage & working as it should?

Thanks for the link Jaylee.

I've had a look at it and learned a lot. Will carry out basal test, and see what information it gives to me.

My blood sugars post fast average 7.0 over 90 days.

The basal insulin I use is Toujeo, and have for approx 6 months.

Thanks once more for the link, and I feel that I am better equipped to manage / monitor my diabetes after reading.

Best wishes.

Sorry @Craftsmanpaul only just picking this up now, didn't get an email notification and I've been on the phone to meter companies most of the afternoon

@Jaylee has sorted you out I see but pretty much if your basal insulin isn't quite right then the rapid won't act as it has been/should be

Good luck :)
xx

Not sure what your "trade" is @Craftsmanpaul , but think of your basal as the foundations of a house? Or the "leading edge" of something you wish to cut at a right angle..? If it's not in the ballpark to start with, cracks may show in the walls or you may not be cutting square..?

It should also give you more confidence with how you are handling the bolus dosage.. :)
