Hi guys, I'm new on the forum and straight away I need a bit of help. I've just gone onto one a day insulin after 10 years of slowly increasing tablet treatment. I am beginning to feel a bit better but my feet have become really tingly, almost painful, at night. Now it's stopping me sleeping and lie ins are a memory! I have quite good BGs (always less than 10 or 11, normally 6 or 7) but i've only been on Insulin for one month. I have tried Ibuprofen but it doesn't really help.

The questions are

How can I control the pain?
Will it go away?

Chris

Thanks in advance:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

I have problems with my feet which are worse at night. I have the constant feeling that I have a ruckled sock under the ball of my right foot and at night I get shooting pains in my toes and some numbness like carpel tunnel syndrom. I find hanging my feet out of the covers helps and usually clears it but I agree I can't lie in and am better up and walking around.:(

helo
the more i eat
the sorer my feet seem to get
when i wake up in the morning
my feet are hot
better than cold i suppose
im just wondering why they are hot
some toes a bit numb
i consider it nothing to worry about
am i right or wrong

Spam95, I know exactly what you mean.....I have "spells" when my feet feel really tingly too. On rare occasions I have had to get out of bed and just pace up and down because the feelings in my feet have been painful enough to stop me sleeping. It always seems to right itself though and I had the pin-prick test only last week and was told I still have full sensation in my feet. You've done well to have managed on tablets for 10 years. I only managed a year before they decided they weren't working for me and put me on insulin.I still don't know where I went wrong.

Thanks for your help guys. The irritating pain is still there and I just hope it goes away. I am a bit tired of the whole thing at the moment. As my blood sugars are getting quite good now I'm having to check my BG quite often to avoid hypos. My fingers, tummy and feet are all sore and I'm feeling a bit naffed off. Still....mustn't grumble!!!

Hi Spam,

I've had this. It followed a bout of plantar fasciitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis) otherwise known as policeman's heel or postman's foot. It's jolly painful and for me came as sudden and very sharp shooting pains up my heel, a bit like standing on a drawing pin. Then I got these pains in other parts of my body, randomly at odd times which could sometimes make me yelp. The one in the eye were awful.

I still get them now and again, especially at night, but not always, but I came across something called Acetyl L-Carnitine (http://www.diabetesinfocenter.org/View. ... rve_health). Some say it can help in healing nerve endings.

I AM NOT SAYING IT'S A CURE OR ADVISING ANYONE TO TRY IT.

I can only say that I took it for a few weeks before noticing anything but can truly say that my pains subsided considerably, although it may all be coincidental, and although I do still get the odd pains and tingling, it's nothing at all like it used to be. I take it regularly although it's not cheap. I emphasise that that's how it was for me. I can't be sure, but it certainly doesn't seem to have harmed me.

I hope you get some relief, one way or another.

Good luck,

Russ

Hi Chris Re Leg Pains
Something I have found helpful can’t thing where I got it from but it does seem to work for me to alleviate nuropathic pains in the legs. I used to often get the feeling that 1001 worms were squirming about in my legs which invariably kept me awake. I would stand in the shower and spray my legs with cold water for two or three minutes. It usually settled it down enough for me to get off to sleep. Might be worth a try? As to your question will it go away I have found that if I consistantly keep my B'S's as near normall as possible the pains significantly improve.

Regards

John
