Non-fasting blood test?

I had my tests done with the diabetic nurse last week and she took a non-fasting blood test.

The results are back today and my MMOL is 48 with a percentage of 6.6% - is this an HBAc1? I thought those had to be fasting?

My meter has been telling me my sugars are really high recently (8-9) with the following averages:

90 day 7.8
30 day 8.3
7 day 9.3

These are nothing like the tests from the nurse? I've been testing every morning to try and keep an eye on it, and really worrying but now I am not sure if maybe the GP is right and I should stop testing.

I don't have my follow up appointment to discuss the results till mid-June due to holidays and jury service so I can't ask the dr yet.

Hey Christine. Yes that would have been your HBA1C which doesnt need to be fasting. The cholesterol test liver and kidney function I believe should be fasting though if you ever have those in future.

Those results do coincide with your results on your meter as an HBA1C of 6.6% is an average of 7.9mmol :) so it is thereabouts in line with your meter x

Thanks - thats really helpful. They did do non-fasting cholestoral and kidney function - the cholestoral was high (6.something) and the kidney was ok.

I guess its not good news on the sugars though as I was hoping my meter was wrong - I can't seem to get my levels back to where they were last September when the meter average was around 6.4.... I've had loads of stress since then and been struggling to resist sweet things.
