I know there have been other threads re the forum and how slow it is for some of us, there never seems to be any real feedback on that and as a lot of us have pointed out, this is the only site we have had problems on.

We had to buy a new computer two weeks ago so any doubt that I had about it being our problem has been well and truly eradicated, nothing has changed, the pages are slow to load and I have had to delete two posts that I made today due to repeated postings. The only reason that happened was that the "submit" button was so damned slow, I didn't think it had worked!

I tend not to come on the site now because of this and what seems to be reluctance from admin to investigate the problem any further - I'm afraid the whole thing is just too frustrating so for the time being I am going to stay away. I'm sure that my absence won't make much of a difference ( ) but the same thing may be happening to others, especially newbies.

Take care peeps.

Don't go ladybird, mine is the same, my computer is new too I thought it was the lappy causing the website to run slow.
Why hasn't there been a good response from the powers that be. By the time I post I usually get fedup and shut the site down. Must be very frustrating fo newbies to the site, they may well give up before they can get a response.

I agree on both counts - site far too slow, and don't go Ladybird! We need you!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo don't go Angie. Life will not be the same without your posts :(

I can't say I've noticed it being slow in the last week or so but it has been running slow for a number of months, it's only really started to run slow when we had the additional features added to the forum such as Similar Topics at the bottom of threads and Most Popular to the right-hand side.

Hmm, it's odd isn't it? I don't have any problems with slowness but it would certainly put me off if I did have.

Hey guys, I'm just dropping in with an update - we're planning on upgrading our servers in the very near future. We've listened to you all and we agree that the site is sometimes unbearably slow. The reason for this is that the site has outgrown the system it's currently hosted on.

I hope that changes your mind!

Good news Giverny ! Give the servers some 'go-faster' stripes !

I too have noticed the lengthy response time, but like other posters it is well worth the wait.

A great site !

Trust me, they'll be getting more than go faster stripes with this upgrade!

I've just had the broadband engineer in. He was lovely and has increased my download speed and given me a better router, so my speed is pretty much optimal. It MUST be the site

Oh gawd, c'mon you lot -you know I'm not the type to annonunce "I'm leaving" and go flouncing off in a huff! :D

What I meant was while the site is continuing to have these probs I will not bother signing in and attempting to partcipate actively because it really is frustrating not to mention time consuming. I will of course read the posts and as soon as the server is updated (thanks for that info Giverny), I wlll be back to partcipate.

In the meantime, take care and see you soon. x

These problems have been ongoing for some time now Ladybird, at least a year I am sure. All I do when it is running slowly is log back on a little later and its usually quicker then, I guess its just about the bandwidth and how many people are viewing the forum at a particular time.

Right this second its running as fast as it could do, whereas earlier today it was very slow. So until a new server is utilised or this one upgraded just bite the bullet and come back later :D

Wow, the Admin/Admin team on here is super nice and diplomatic.

We, the users don't pay a single penny for the service, the community has grown and so things have slowed down, new servers aren't cheap, nor is hosting.

I've seen so many people on here openly admit the information on this site alone has allowed them a better quality in life, surely that is worth the slow loading times?

Oh no wait, I'm obviously wrong, that's not enough.

I think that's a bit harsh to be honest. If we don't pass along issues we are having, then admin won't know. I don't think anyone is in any way ungrateful, simply passing along something that is an issue here!

Yes, and there is a way to deliver such a message. Do you not think one stating they're leaving in protest due to slow speeds is a bit harsh?

Secondly, the thread title "Nope, too slow" - Did I miss something here? Was the thread started asked what they think about the loading times on this website? A bit of tact could of been used to come up with a better thread title.

If you honestly believe my post is too harsh, I invite you to re-read the thread title and content. Have a little think of the free services offered and how it helps so many newly diagnosed diabetics and existing diabetics, and may be then, reconsider your view.

I know Ladybird, the staff and admin know ladybird. She will go out of her way to see both sides in a disagreement or dispute, she is one of the least offensive posters on this forum! I have absolutely no intention of reconsidering my view, I said what I thought, and what I still think and stand absolutely by my comments!!

Don't worry about offending us when you point out problems with the forum. We're here to ensure that you guys, as the users, have the best quality of site available. If you have any further complaints about things you feel should be improved around the forum, don't hesitate to PM me about it and I'll make sure the information is passed on to our developers.

We applied an update last week and from what I can see, the site seems to be running faster. Is this the case for everyone or is it just my imagination?
