Norovirus

Only about 1% of all reported Norovirus outbreaks globally, happen on cruise ships.
People get ill sometimes, these stories get hyped up by the news people who just want a sensational headline.
Relax, enjoy yourself.

I have not had norovirus, but people react differently to viruses, depending if they have other (diabetic or non-diabetic) underlying medical issues. Your hospital diabetes team may be able to advise you on how dangerous norovirus is to diabetics.

The decision is for you to make. You may have a wonderful holiday. But if you decide not to go this time, there will be other cruises.

Friends are just back from one that had an outbreak. He got poorly
, she didnt, even though they were confined to cabin for 2 days (because he was ill, not whole ship).
Best prevention is regular hot water and soap handwashing eg before and after each meal and using toilet. Sanitisers dont prevent notorious.

It really does depend, sometimes it can just be mild stomach ache but that's about it.
Other times it may be 'its wise not to be too far from a toilet' but otherwise ok
And then other times it can be a lot worse (whether diabetic or not), one time I had a really bad case of gastro-enteriritis (I think that's what the hospital said it was) about 20 years ago but I literally couldn't hold anything down, dont know what caused it, I hadn't been away anywhere recently - I've never had it happen again
Yeah sure I've had some stomach bugs - probably normally due to food I've eaten and not due to my diabetes

But basically there is no average for stomach bug, cant tell til you get it what or when its going to be,
