Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hi I’m Rita aged 71 and have had Type 1 Diabetes for 65 Years (Yes I got the Medal when I lived in the UK). Now enjoying Retirement with my Husband in France and Loving Life. At least 15 Years ago I was offered the Insulin Pump at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but refused as I didn’t mind doing the Injections and my Diabetes was reasonably well controlled. Roll on 13 Years and I was offered it again here in France but told the Doctor I was too old to change but he insisted it would be good for my well being so I went for it and had to go into the Hospital for 3 Days for connection and monitoring - BEST Thing I ever did and I’ve been on it for 2 Years now. My Diabetes control is the best it’s ever been and I stay in range most of the time as the Glucose levels are showing on the pump continuously so you are in complete control. If anybody has any doubts then don’t just go for it - I Love My Pump !!! The main reason to go on the Pump was because I was getting very low Glucose levels during the night and Christmas 2022 at 3.00 am I went unconscious and my family couldn’t wake me up so had to call for the Pompiers (Paramedic) to come who inserted a Drip and took me to Hospital - I never want that to happen again as it was very frightening for everybody. Now the Pump has a Loud alarm and warns of any drops or highs in levels and the situation can be addressed immediately.
