Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
hi I have just joined the forum. I have been checking my glucose levels because I have an under active thyroid and although being treated for this still feel very ill. I am being checked for diabetes.

My readings seem low to me what do you think?

Morning readings before food are between 3.1 and 4.1
After food 2 hours they are still only 4.2 to 4.8

Rarely am I above 5 .

Are these normal readings?

Many thanks ( previously last year I was measured between 5 and 6ish.

Those aren't diabetic readings

Yes, they're low but within the normal range apart from the 3.1 BUT glucose meters have a margin of error so that "3.1" could easily be a 4.2 for example

Diabetes is diagnosed from a venous blood sample for that reason.

If you're at all concerned, it's best to see a doctor to get a proper test. The blood glucose meters you can buy cannot diagnose diabetes or other glucose issues. Their purpose is to allow people with diagnosed conditions monitor them - hence the advice to see a doctor for proper tests

Many thanks for your response. Gp is currently doing bloods for me, I am trying to get a bit more informed before I go back.

You say you are being treated for an under active thyroid.
What meds are you on and do they have side effects of low blood glucose levels?
