Hi..I've been low carbing for some time and lost 2 stone since my fasting bs was picked up by the gp at 6.1. She's told me to come back in a year ..which is now. Have been able to keep bs largely in the 5's but do get occasional 6's and on a couple of occassions a 7, usually when I've lapsed . Was pleased with a 2hr pp check which gave me a 5.2 last night; but then woke up with a fasting bs of 6.1. It doesn't take too long to come down when I get going in the morning, but my fasting figures drive me nuts. Sometimes good , but sometimes up like today for no good reason. Could this be the dawn phenominum and if so what the heck can you do about it? Do you think I need to worry when I get fasting bs. in the 6's. My gp seems happy to leave it until I get closer to 7. So confusing....

Are you t1 or 2?

I don't know a lot about type 2, but if you're type one, these readings are really good! And well done for losing the weight, that must have been hard. I would say exactly this to your gp and see what they say then... if you're injecting, sometimes your body can be responsive to insulin in different ways at different times of the day, but if you're not then I'm not sure.. talk to your gp! Hope you get it all sorted :)

i think dawn phenominum happens in everyone, diabetic or not, our bodies are just getting us ready for the day, not easy to fix and tbh with your numbers i dont think it needs fixing, you weight loss is terrific and bg numbers are good, although my guess is diabetes because whilst low carbing and losing the weight id expect you to be getting very low numbers if not db, but for all my non medical experience it may just be that body is dealing with any ups and downs very well, on the bright side your already doing all the right t hings so if you were to get a diagnosis it wont be so big a deal

best of luck

not sure this was helpful lol sorry

Thanks for help, just nice to be able to chat to people...feeling a bit glum so have just had a whack out on the treadmill in a panic...had one of my bad lapse days today with stupid food choices.., and just did a pp reading and got 7.5. That is unusual. Back to the low carb..moderate fat tomorrow! I think the fact it goes up when I lapse is telling me I'm knocking on the door of type 2. This all started following a tia I had a few years ago and I'm sure it's linked. I know my numbers are good, but am discovering I need to stick to the diet and exercise rigidly to keep them there, with no lapses like today! Sometimes I have got a 4.9 fasting..just seems to leap around. Have got a normal bloodwork check coming up next week so will go back to gp if its high. and ask for Hba1c. I suppose.

Hi. Your figures are very good so keep up the good work. Don't worry about fasting sugar levels as they don't mean too much. Just note occasionally your just before meals and 2 hours after readings

The feeling I get is that your numbers are good and you may be worrying a bit too much. In your position I would have the occasional treat or two.
Do what you are doing and go out for a walk sometimes. I do not favour exercise bikes or treadmills since when you have had enough you just get off and fall into an armchair.

Real walking and bikes have the advantage/ disadvantage that when you get fed up with it you still have to get home.
