Hello, it's been a long while since I have been on here. Been really struggling with my blood sugar levels. Last year I was taken of metaforim as it was having an extreme side effect on me ( had to plan journeys knowing where a toilet was!) so I went on two gliclazide 80mg daily.
I have been trying to lose weight but have only managed 5 pounds in 5 months on weight watcher.
I have been to see my diabetic nurse today who is very good and very understanding. She has said that it's probably the gliclazide that is stopping me losing the weight. So we need to look at my medication. She has suggested going onto Trulicity. I'm interested in hearing from those who have used this drug and how did you find it. It's a weekly injection that I like the idea of. Also it can help with weight loss.

Hi. Did you try Metformin SR (Slow Release) which is much kinder on the bowels. Metformin remains the best tablet when you have excess weight whereas Gliclazide may or may not help depending on your pancreas. Note that like insulin, Gliclazide doesn't cause weight gain but provides the body with more insulin which enables excess carbs to be used and stored as fat. I know nothing about Trulicity but whatever, do follow a low carb diet to remove any excess weight. WW may help a bit but be aware that some of their foods and ideas support a high carb diet which is wrong for diabetes or even weight loss.

I am on gliclazide (and Metformin) (4 tabs each) but I have found a low carb diet has been very effecrive in controlling my sugar levels. I have lost weight even with the Glic tabs, and lost 4" off my waist. Suggest a search to read some of the Low Carb Success Stories thread on this Forum, since my experience is not unique. I have reduced my Glic tabs now, and still getting good bgl levels.

I had a fright recently - I thought I had suddenly put on a bunch of weight, but it turned out that my belt had become twisted, and shortened by about 2". All sorted now.

I use Sweet Potato or Lidl Protein Roll instead. The LC substitute Cauli Mash is actually preferred by the non diabetics in my house. Swede and Celeriac Mash is also a fair substitute, and LC. The Sweet Pot is really only suitable baked or crisped in coconut oil. Of course, if you are going VLC (<20g carb / day) then these alternatives are still going to break the bank if you are not careful
