Hi I've been a diabetic for about 12 years now. Until this year I have had good control. I have tried to follow the Bernstein method since my diagnosis. For the last 6 months I have been totally out of whack and had High BS ins the regions of 14 and not able to bring them down. Strangely this Sunday my fasting blood sugar was 5.3mmol and I was quite amazed. After my breakfast of 2 rashers of bacon and a cappuchino made with cream instead of milk it rose to 5.7 stayed pretty low all day went to bed with a reading of 5.0 was so pleased.

Woke at 2pm with a headache (hypo hangover possibly) took some paracetamol checked bs it was 4.7 not that low really. This morning a reading of 6.5 DP I suppose.. Breakfast the same as Sunday. Got to work checked my BS after 2 hours 9.4. Can anyone explain to me why such a big difference between Sunday and Monday. I am stumped and totally depressed at these numbers. I take 2 80mg Glicazade am and pm and metformin 850 x 3 times a day. Anyone who has any ideas that will help me I would be most grateful.

Are you stressed at work? What did you have to eat last on Sunday?

Hi, welcome. I tend to agree with @zand as a first reaction. What is your journey to work like? What work do you do? Did anything change significantly 6 months ago?

Hi

I ate normally on Sunday we had a fillet steak with green beans and some small potatoes and I ate some pistachio nuts with a couple glasses of wine. Not really stressed I work alone about 2 miles from home not a stressful journey. My colleague did resign about 6 months ago so maybe I am feeling stressed and a little depressed about that. Would that increase my numbers?

Possibly yes. I'm sorry I have no knowledge of the drugs you are taking, so I can't really comment further. I hope someone else who is more knowledgeable will be along soon.

as you said, you have been high for 6 months and suddenly Sunday you were normal range..it needs a week to get an idea of a pattern
my guess is that your liver released .'sugar' or your pancreas slowed releasing insulin

but if you start heading up again and you are already on low carb by the sound of your health breakfast,
you may need your meds tweaked with by the Dr..the important thing has to be to keep your BG in range
