Hi there

I was wondering if anyone could help me and my daughter aged 13.

To cut a long story short. My daughter has been having high blood sugars since Thursday.

She was taken into hospital after being in DKA. Her ketones suddenly climbed from 4.4 to 5.8 in just an hour. The hospital put her on a fluid drip and insulin drip. As soon as they took her off the ketones came back. We spent 2 nights but 3 days in total in the hospital.

The hospital left her with high sugars without correction (they took her insulin away so I could not do it) she almost went into DKA again so they put her on fluids again. Her sugars came down.

The next day they sent her home knowing she was still getting highs and ketones! They increased the ratio of her insulin including novo rapid.

They took blood test all came back clear.

This morning she was high and her ketones were 2.7!

I've change her insulin pens just incase but still she gets high blood sugars.

I'm so frightened she will go back into DKA state. All the ups and downs is taken its toll on my daughter. She is so down.

I feel the hospital and her specialist doctor has packed her off without dealing with her situation. I have complained but got no where.

I was wondering if there was a specialist hospital I could take her in the country as she obviously isn't getting the right care.

This has happened before when she was having hypos, I could not get her sugars up! They sent her home. We was back in there shortly after!!!

Please can you help???

Hi
Is she taking exams at school or has there been any other stress. I noticed when my father died my sugar level went through the roof I mean they were off the scale. Nothing seemed to make a difference I was fasting and pumping in correction doses to the point where I was worried I would come crashing.

Thank you for your reply. No exams and no stress. Totally out of the blue. Do you think it could be connect to the fact she has not opened her bowels of a week???

Wow there is a question first thing in the morning. I would get that checked out.
Buy a Freestylelibre starter pack. You can monitor her levels without a finger prick. She just needs to touch the meter to it once every 8 hours. It will relax you and lower the stress.
My sugars are not stable and I am waiting for a review. The change day to day for no reason. I do now have a good view over 24 hours. My 24 hour insulin is at fault I think.
Anyway it's money well spent if you get it and it will make her feel better about testing as its not visible like a finger prick.
I am a guy so I don't know about the female side of things with hormones and other stresses that she is going through. I hope this helps.

Maybe try Royal London my friend is with them and she is in a pump and is coping well.
