Not getting it right

Hi, I've been Type 1 for a few years now. Thanks to the advice on here I got things going ok ( my diabetic team are a bit behind the times) but this does mean my knowledge is patchy.

I lost my way over Christmas and really need to start again. My numbers are all over the place and I would really appreciate a Noddy guide to getting basal right before I tackle the bigger issue of motivation to be a good diabetic who gets to keep her eyes and feet.

I inject AM and PM with an intermediate (Humulin I). When should I not eat to test, and what am I looking for? The BG staying constant?

Any assistance to get this train wreck back on the tracks would be appreciated.

Was limited carb. Since Christmas it's been denial diet (no point trying,the numbers are wrong regardless).

Have been trying to get straight again but I suspect that the honeymoon has ended and I need to adjust all the ratios and I don't know how to do that.
