Hey all,

Just got back from my 6-monthly diabetes check. My results were OK, but my HbA1c has crept up to 6.1 (was 5.9 in November). I am so disappointed  I know there's not much difference, but it feels a big step backwards as it is the highest it has been since November 2010. My average BG from my testing over the last 3 months was also 6.1 and I was hoping this would equate to a lower HbA1c, not a higher one! I'm going to have a grumpy wallow today and then look at how to get back into the 5s from tomorrow.

It was odd, though, because the nurse (who I have no confidence in as she was the one who misdiagnosed me as type 2 and nearly killed me - not that I'm bitter  ) was telling me off for having my HbA1c too low, while I was feeling very disappointed that it had gone up into the 6s - surreal

In other news blood pressure was 100/68 - is that OK? (I don't understand BP readings)
Cholestorol:
Cholestorol 4.4
Trig 0.56
HDL 2.3
LDL 1.8
Cholestorol:LDL ratio 1.9

I need to find the table Borofergie posted a few days ago to see if the cholestorol is OK, but I think it is.

Oh, and the surgery now want to charge patients for a printout of their results. In my grumpy mood, I suggested a few more effective ways of saving money

Sorry for bimbling on! Just wanted to tell you all!

Don't be too disappointed in yourself as 6.1 is fine, your cholesterol levels also look fine and very similar to what I got back yesterday.

I can't believe they want to charge for print-out

Your BP and cholesterol ratios are all EXCELLENT.
Go celebrate

I think they truly believe that an HbA1c below 7 cannot be achieved without loads of hypos.

Hi smidge.
Out of curiousity how much did they want/charge you for the print out?
Dont be too hard on yourself, you are still doing great,
We're all here supporting you! x  :D

Hi Smidge. Know how you feel! Last test but one, I went along with average BGs MUCH lower than before when I got a 5.9, and I got a 6.0! So annoyed, I insisted on an immediate retest and got 5.9 again, still higher than I thought it should be. Last time, BGs much the same, got 5.7.
So sometimes, no rhyme or reason it seems. But still great results you got - what's the odd 0.1 or so between friends? Well done

Thanks, Guys!

I've ceased the sulking now - and am determined that my next HbA1c will be a return to the 5s! I think the imminent arrival of my tea and a big glass of chablis is helping

Interestingly, there have been two main changes since my last HbA1c which was in the 5s:

less exercise - so I've started back on the cross-trainer today
a reduction in wine - which I'm about to put right

Hey Grazer - yes it's frustrating because my testing is pretty thorough and it was looking good for a reduction in HbA1c. I'm blaming the period between eating and the two-hour test - it's the only thing I don't flippin' cover with my testing! So I'll do a few one-hour tests to see how spikey these are, I think. I know it's only .1, but it really annoyed me

Anna - they wanted 50p! I told them to put them on my memory stick and I'd print them myself. They declined and just gave me the printout.

Hana - I think you are right. I was questioned at length over hypos and told that more Type 1s die of hypo-induced comas than of having HbA1cs of 7. I politely informed the nurse that I am not some kind of idiot and perfectly understand the issues of hypos, but it is possible to maintain tight control without constantly collapsing. It was just one of those days!

Daylight robbery 50p per print out!
Imagine how much they would make if [all] clinics n gp's n hospitals did this
with ALL diabetics wanting print outs/access to their own results ...
So 'not' good

A man on a true mission of adventure  we will have to add that to the bottom of all recipes.

Hey Smidge

Don't get down the difference in scores can easily be accounted for by the margin of error in any hBA1c test so you were just unlucky. Forget about it, move on and enjoy some more wine.

Oh and I see Roy has the same mistake I did when I joined.   Let's see how long it takes him...

The last ime I asked for a print-out it caused great consternation and because i can't read these things wihou good lighing and my rusy magnifyig glass i dibn't notice unil I go home.

I would have enjoyed going back and demanding the realt hing or a refund of my 50p i often wonder if they are deliberately trying to put people off because they find things of hiis nature difficult.

I can only imagine the chaos a demand for a refund of 50p would have caused!

Come on what have I done now? is Smidge a lady by chance  lesson learned look at profile first ha ha sorry Smidge  :D

How about if they ask for money for a print out,sit there with pen and large sheet of of paper and ask for each result eg each break down of cholesterol, Hba1c ,calcium etc and write very slowly, ask lots of questions .They will soon get fed up and print out your results. I have never been asked to pay but I have been asked to sign a disclaimer that I agree to me taking my results out of the surgery

I did the same thing with another poster yesterday, Grazer had to put me right. Quite a few thought I was male when I joined, I wonder, is diabetes more prevalent in the male species?

I think it is just assumed you are male if your username is not obviously female. I never bothered putting people right when they thought I was male but never look at profiles either. On here its mostly irrelevant.
