Not hungry for breakfast and Metformin

Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked/answered before on here somewhere. As well as Diabetes type 2 I also suffer with Bipolar Disorder, Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Any one or more of these can and do upset my appetite. At the moment I am suffering anxiety and this just makes any food at breakfast time make me feel sick at the thought, it takes a coffee or tea and a few hours breathing to make lunch even acceptable. I think I have read somewhere that if I don't have breakfast I can still take the metformin meant for breakfast time? even with no food?. I do know from previous testing that if I don't eat breakfast my numbers will raise, but if i've taken the metformin anyway will that help?. I am low carb and sticking with good fats but not over the top on anything. No testing strips at the moment (cash gone on heating as I am already feeling the cold) but hopefully will be able to test again soon. Thoughts on metformin without food?

I take metformin without food as I don't normally eat until 4 pm. I've never had any problems.
My BGs do rise if I don't have anything at all but I usually find that 2 cups of tea with milk are enough to stop the dawn phenomenon continuing until I eat.

Metformin can cause some unpleasant gastric side effects in some people which is why they advise taking it with food. If you tolerate it well and there is no adverse reaction to taking it on a empty stomach then you don't have a problem. If you don't eat any breakfast it's quite natural for your liver to help out by releasing some stored glucose. Personally I look on this as a positive, getting it out of my liver into my blood where it can be used.
If you would rather not see your levels rise maybe try some cream in a coffee, the cream should fool your liver and prevent it from dumping glucose
