When I went into hospital on Tuesday for my op was discussing various aspects with one of the Doctors when he said Oh by the way the blood tests we took the other day the results where fine all except for the Kidney damage me gob smacked as had no idea even from all the other blood tests done recently no one had bothered to mention it. What the Hell.

Apparently (according to my little sis who is a nurse) most medics either assume that your GP/consultant/specialist nurse have already told you or, more commonly, they don't volunteer information to the patient unless the patient specifically asks (for test results) I do agree with @hankjam however, a little humanity and empathy wouldn't go amiss
How are you feeling today John?

So sorry to hear that John.
Now what? Did they advice a diet or to lower protein? I think my kidney function is normal but had stones so they advised a low protein/ low oxalate diet.

Hope you feel better soon

That must have been a bit of a shock for you. Have you been referred on somewhere for investigations/tests/advice?

You must ask for a print out of these results - then you can see for yourself what the readings were rather than some doctor filtering out stuff he thinks you won't understand. They are very fond of doing this. Knowledge is power.

I hope you are recovering well.

Hi all thanks for your replies but I have hardly been able to make it out of bed for a few days as have been in a lot of pain BP has been down to 75/55 at one point making me a little dizzy, and no I have been given no dietary advice at all just the bald statement of fact so will have to wait till I feel fit enough to see doctor as am unsure of what I should be doing.
I shouldn't complain the stents have given me a new lease of life and this will just be something on a long list to overcome.

I am feeling brighter now so who knows what the future will bring. At least I have one now.:)
