Not sure I'm going to sleep tonight

Yep it's pretty dire there at the moment - no wonder they're closing for good next month. Thing is I didn't want to find a new GP while actually being in the process of getting a diagnosis. I have to see the doctor at work next week and I wonder if there's anything she can do to get things moving quicker. I just want to know as the more I look into it, the more I realise that my blood glucose is certainly not normal.

FYI - the toast thing was an experiment - just to gather some more useful info for my doctor when I go for my repeat blood results. My argument is going to be that even if the fasting figures look fine, my eating figures don't seem to be (not going by the toast experiment anyway - haven't done the potato experiment yet but I expect it will be similar).
 
Loobles, although you spiked high at 1 hour, you were back to base at 2 hours, which is what happens to non-diabetics, and shows your pancreas is working well. It brought those levels down as it should do. The problem with type 2's is that a 1 hour spike is likely to still be higher than base at 2 hours because the pancreas is working less well. Anyway, I hope you do manage to get to the bottom of it as you are clearly worried.
 
I must admit the 1hr reading did worry me, though I couldn't find any info on expected 1 hr values, maybe I should just stop looking lol. As for worry, I think I'm just more keen to get it out of the way if that makes sense. I hate going to doctors and find it really stressful. Sorry if I'm coming across as a bit loopy LOL
 
If the surgery is closing for good, I would say get a new doctor sooner rather later.

Remember if your surgery has a charge if you miss appointments it is allowed to work both ways and you can claim the same fee back of them. It is something that is kept very quiet and I don't know if anyone has managed to claim a fee back but it might be worth a try.
 
Hmmm...I'm not sure if mine charge as I've never missed one. Have already identified a new surgery and am going to register next weekend...just wait till this repeat blood test result is in.
 
Loobles, there aren't any official guidelines for 1 hour readings, just some opinions from doctors here and there.
 
Regards cholesterol you only get about 10% (can not remember exact amount) of cholesterol from food the rest is made from your liver.
 
@Loobles - @Andrew Colvin has done quite a bit of comparative testing, mirroring consumption and testing between himself and his non-diabetic wife. This is none of his threads: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/moving-from-low-carb-to-higher-levels.58491/, but a search would reveal more content. Andrew and his wife's numbers were very interesting, and enlightening, and included quite a bit at 1 hour, where, curiously enough Mrs Colvin's numbers spiked higher than Andrew's at the earlier time points. I'd recommend a rummage around for those.

My gosh...they really couldn't organise a knees-up in a brewery...

Just rang surgery to ask what time the drop in blood service is open tomorrow (you know, since there was nobody there when I got there today) - they told me to drop in tomorrow. Glad I called to find out times because even though they told me to go tomorrow, it turns out they're CLOSED tomorrow. Just had a right do with them.

Luckily there is a local surgery who does have a blood drop in service - but can't go there until I go to my GP to get my blood form - because the stupid locum I saw yesterday wouldn't give me the blood form! That is also the same surgery who couldn't get my blood last time and sent me to the hospital (who don't do GP patients on a Wednesday morning. Could be Thursday before they get taken then. Sheesh...I just want to know...

I would be feeling some correspondence coming on in your shoes.

I had to do something when I was having difficulty coordinating test/reviews and travel a few months ago. Once I had written to the practise manager listing the pure facts of calls made and excuses I heard, then explained how far I was travelling and at what cost, in order to be proactively involved in the management of a potentially serious medical condition, things changed. Curiously, she wrote back with a timetabled solution. It was still almost impossible to arrange one set of bloods and one review in a space of a calendar month, given I offered her all times of every day to work with. As it was there was no lea way should I have needed to see a doctor.

In a commercial environment these scenario just wouldn't be tolerated.
 
I know, that's just what's so frustrating. I have the same problem coordinating my asthma clinic, medication review and flu jab appointments because heaven forbid you should want your flu jab at the asthma clinic! I had to get the practice manager involved with that one. She tried telling me nobody have ever complained about it before. I said they shouldn't have to complain about your illogical systems because somebody should have thought about it from the patient's persepctive anyway. Please don't give me yet another chronic condition to deal with *looks up to the sky* I'm not sure I could handle it.

Yes, there is a section in bloodsugar101 (see link in my signature) showing evidence that at blood glucose levels above 7.8 the amount of glucose in the blood is actually harmful to the beta cells in the pancreas which produce insulin.

So the higher and longer you are above 7.8, the more you risk killing off beta cells, which makes you less able to produce insulin, which worsens your diabetes, which raises your blood glucose, which increases your risk of killing off beta cells...

Others have commented on the A1c. Cholesterol looks great to me.Your trigs/HDL is 0.9. Read this to see why I think that is excellent: Ratio of Triglycerides to HDL Cholesterol Is an Indicator of LDL Particle Size in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Normal HDL Cholesterol Levels. That means your LDL is mostly good useful particles, not nasty dense particles. I hope your doc isn't pushing statins on you.
 
That's reassuring to hear Alan, because I've always eaten a fatty diet and was really worried when doc suggested a cholesterol test. I use olive oil for everything and love avocados and nuts so maybe that's it. I haven't seen doc...not till Wednesday, but it was going to be a no to the statins anyway. In my mind there's not enough evidence to say they won't make my life utterly miserable!
