I found out on Friday at I am diabetic. Reading was 18 at 8:30 in the morning after fasting since18:30 the evening before. Was supposed to be having an operation. Today I have been for blood test at my gp and they also did a glucose test which read 9.8. I was quite impressed. That was at 11am. I had eaten weetabix and skimmed milk at 8am. For lunch at 1pmI had a rye bread sandwich, no butter, ham cucumber and watercress.Had about 10 white grapes at 15:30 and then chicken stir fry with egg noodles at 19:00. Just took a test and it is 19.7. What am I doing wrong? I am going back to gp on Friday to get results of blood test. Just feel that I failing at trying to be good. Also I took the dog a a 2 mile walk this afternoon. I would appreciate and helpful advise and tips.

Hello I'm a type one and was diagnosed 5 years ago, I went through the same thing, if your on a fixed insulin dosage then maybe your doctor should increase your dosage. They were altering my doses for weeks, don't worry they will get it back to normal:) hope this helps!

Not on any medication yet. Don't even know if I am type 1 or 2. I am assuming type 2. I have had no symptoms what so ever, just a little tired. Just had a random blood pressure test and glucose test on Friday when I was about to go down to theatre for an op. just finding it all very confusing. I felt a bit better this afternoon when reading was 9.8, but gutted again after the reading this evening.

You ate quite a lot of carbohydrates (noodles, bread, weetabix) and that gives you high sugar levels. Once you get on medication it will get better. Not sure why you have to wait so long to see your gp. High levels for a long time are dangerous!

Thank you. It is all so daunting. I am sure once I have seen the gp and get some advice I will be able to cope better. I probably shouldn't have brought the tester today, maybe waited till Friday. Just want to do things right!

I know its a bit of shock at the beggining. It takes time to learn all of that. You will become an expert soon (Im not yet but still learning:)). Maybe you should reduce carbohydrates for the next few days to feel better a bit. At least till Friday when you see your gp.
