I can, by the sounds of what you are eating - all good. As to meters, if you buy a 'codefree' meter the strips are £6 for a pot of 50, very reasonable http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm. Hope the link works.[/QUOTEThank youI can, by the sounds of what you are eating - all good. Am diabetic of two months. Am trying the low carb diet but not sure if I am doing things right. Seeing diabetic nurse on Thursday and I know she will not give me a meter so am wondering if it is really necessary and what sort to get. Food at the moment is scrambled egg for breakfast, lunch either tuna, ham or salmon with salad and dinner chicken, fish or pork chop with vegetables. I have been having half a slice of lidl protein bread with breakfast. I have been having almonds for snack and vogert with some raspberries. Have lost a stone and a bit in six weeks so surely am doing something right. It all seems a bit overwhelming still and really hope I will feel better soon. Am not taking tablets as a tried metformin and it was awful. Also have gastritis and small hiatus hernia so have to be a bit careful what I eat. I am 71 year old lady and considered myself fairly fit a couple of months ago. I just want to be able to enjoy life again. Anyone out there who can reassure me.
Welcome young lady (I'm 74) and you're doing everything right as far as I can see. Just keep it up. I know it's all very uncertain at the moment but all will become clear.surely am doing something right
