.. Had cauli cheese for tea & thought I'd spoil myself with a bit of sweetcorn too.. Bg is now 9.7 (3hours later) which I know isnt ridiculous but why on earth so high when it was 4.8 before tea... Was it the sweetcorn!? I pumped for it and everything! Imagine it's just one of those things but I even avoided my sat night alcohol after a high reading last night from drinking larger :( boo! Just feel a bit miffed coz I thought it would be fine! Sorry if this should be in food related forum :) x

Depending on the food sometimes it can release a bit slower so you can end up like that.
Personally I have found that sometimes 3 to 4 hours after eating my levels are still slightly high but then another hour later and they suddenly plummet and get back into a normal range.
As long as it comes back to where you did expect it my the time of next meal or scheduled test I wouldn't go too hard on yourself.

In the meal you describe the cheese could have slowed absorption a bit with the carbs in the sweetcorn.

sweetcorn ( tinned ? ) is one of the highest carb veg -- higher than new potatoes.

if you had a decent portion - say 100 grams it could have added an extra 20 grams carb ( which for me is a bolus of about 4 units )

love cauli cheese though -- one of my all time favs :)

Yeah it was tinned, had 50g of it, I know it's quite carby but I do love it so was having it as my Saturday night treat lol cauli cheese is my fav, I could honestly eat it every day lol

Woke up at 4am with a 2.8 so it eventually came down lol :( x

Hi,

Yep. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it... (Just noticed you pump.) all the same. I still maintain that modern insulins no matter how tight you keep it, can't allways act accordingly with the digestion & breakdown of the food eaten...

I retired last night with a teenage BS.. Like my mindset at the time too! I know where I went wrong.. A couple of unexpected beers.. So I thought when I basaled for bed. "It'll be around 7mmol in the morning & compensate for breakfast.?" Tomorrow's another day..
I woke up an hour ago feeling fantastic. Got up to make a cup of tea for my wife, even though she was fast asleep.. Odd? Why was I thinking tea first thing.. Then I noticed my blurry vision, light sensitivity & lack of balance getting out of bed.. Grabbing a biscuit & testing while I munched 1.4.
(Edit)
My wife's up now.. Turns out I don't remember making her that cup of tea.. I seem to have gone a little overboard treating the hypo too. I,m now where I initially guessed I would be last night. 7.4 mmol... :banghead: :D

it's a real pain at times - you think you nail it ( with a reasonable spike early doors ) and then a crash in middle of night .
hope you were ok
i had the opposite last night - well nearly -- a 10.4 2 hours post meal and a 5.8 before bed -- waking to a massive 14.9 this morning at 6am
no figuring it somedays

back to cauli cheese -- love it with really strong cheddar -- not mild or medium -- and some parmesan grated on top
along with some bacon or some gammon - making myself hungry

Its the fat in the meal as high-fat meals can effect bg levels for several hours after finishing the meal.

Love cauliflower cheese, I use both cauli & broccoli in mine and throw in a some garlic cloves..........delicious:)

Aaaar, someone else who likes broc cheese too.

This place is turning into a Foodies paradise what with chocolate tea bags, kale chips and now cauli/broc cheese. What next?

You might like to know that Tesco stock a bag of ready grated cheese that has fried onions added to it. Saves frying the onions:)
