Hi
I have been diabetic for over 30 years now. Over the last couple of years I have been using the Freestyle Libra 2 sensor which is great for constant monitoring of my sugars. I usually eat salads for my main meal along with a few potatoes but have now started to eat larger meals i.e potatoes, veg, meat. To combat this I am taking over 30 units of novarapid to keep my sugars from spiking. I realise everyone is different but is 30 units more than I should be having or is it acceptable? Many Thanks

if your bg is normal at this dosage, then this is acceptable. even 100 units is acceptable. Like you said, we're all different. For some, 1 unit of NovoRapid is enough, for others, 150 is not enough.

really depends on the person. some people 1 unit per 10g carb ratio is fine others 1:15 can even be 1:20 whereas on the other side of spectrum depending on a few factors 0.5:1 1:1 2:1 or whaever can also be used.

the best person to speak to for advice is your DSN/Endo. sugar levels should be within 2mmol approx 2 hours after food.

I would ask for a refresher carb count course such as DAFNE. meats would generally ignore, potatoes would count alongside some other veg. really depends on what your body handles what you've consumed.

Thank you. I am quite paranoid about how much insulin I take even though in conjunction with my sensor I can manage it quite well. My sensor is a god send as I can take extra dosages to avoid high sugars and keep within range

Thanks. The carb counting on food rather frightens me. I do tend to adjust my dosages as needs be.

Hi
Its peculiar to the individual.
For me monday to friday i take 10 units for my evening meal.
I am active at work and have a light lunch.
At weekends i am not active and need around 15 units for the same amount of carbs.

Thanks to the libre i worked out years ago the simple act of walking has a big impact on insulin requirements for me.

I wish you well

Tony

Thanks Tony. This is why I am concerned about taking 30 units for my evening meal although for me it does seem to work
