hi everyone,
Was wondering if anyone knows if the Novopen 5 is available on prescription please? would be very useful for me but is quite expensive

Hi @SJAK5962 , the Novopen Echo allows you to give 1/2 units of insulin to help with better control, and has a memory function. I get mine on prescription, worth checking out. Not just for kids! http://www.novonordisk.com/patients/diabetes-care/insulin-pens-and-needles/novopen-echo.html
Hi Garr, I did think they were just for kids lol. But got to be better if you have the 1/2 unit option. Think I need a chat with the diabetic nurse see what can be sorted for me.
Thanks for the info x

I got both NovoPen 5 and NovoPen Echo on prescription so its definitely worth speaking to your DSN about.

I would say the Echo is better because of the 1/2 unit as you can get a more accurate amount of insulin for the foods you are eating.

Hi MH2010,
Thanks for your reply, it seems like the echo has the edge over the novopen 5 so will see about getting one.
Need the memory on it as I keep forgetting if I've done my injection so have to ask my husband if he saw me do it lol. I reckon I'm getting old!
Thanks again x

Plus the NovoPen Echo has a built-in memory function, it displays the time that has passed since you last injected, this is a great feature when you have those moments of doubt as to whether you injected or not.

A great little pen and the best around IMHO :)

I agree, I often have those moments of doubt. After doing it so long I think you go on autopilot and do it without thinking!
Thanks for your reply, it's really helpful to get other people's opinions before you commit to getting things x

You get more of those moments of doubt as you get older @SJAK5962 :(

For pens that don't have a built-in memory function you can purchase devices such as Timesulin:

I could not remember wether or not I took my lantus this morning but I checked with my mum And I had so all good I think I just inject and don't really need any time anymore just normal and hope the omnipod will too soon

I have the echo on prescription. it's very good

Thanks everyone for your replies I appreciate your advise. Have contacted DSN and just waiting for her to get back to me, hopefully tomorrow x

I simply requested two on the online prescription request and GP put them on scrip. Just remember to ask Pharmacy to get you different colours for basal/bolus.

Defo a good idea, when i saw my DSN she prescribed me a blue for novo an silver for levemir. They are great.

That's a good point, no use having two pens the same colour lol that would be worse than forgetting if you'd taken the injection,
Thanks X
