Hi, I have been on Novorapid for about 10 years, and don't have any big problems with it, but have heard people say that Fiasp is better. Any thoughts please?

Fiasp works quicker.
I love it because NovoRapid was really slow for me so I had to prebolus by 30 to 60 minutes to prevent spiking after eating, which takes much more planning than I like.

Fiasp can be better because it can start working faster.
But, I have found its speed is more dependent on starting BG than NovoRapid was for me.
With a BG of 4 Fiasp works immediately. With a BG over 10 is can take more than 45 minutes to do anything. Over 15 and I feel as if I am injecting water.
If your levels are typically in the 5 to 8 range, I would recommend Fiasp.

So it kicks in quicker. Apart from that is it pretty much the same?

Hi,

Here are the characteristics on paper regarding Fiasp. https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/2447/smpc#gref

I haven’t tried Fiasp. But I find Novorapid works for me regardless of how high the BG. (I see a turn around in 75minutes.)

In fact in recent months, I’ve had to lower my insulin to carb ratio & correction dose on novo. (Got no idea why.)
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.. Though I am starting to think I could do with using a pump..

I suppose the question I would ask is why would you want to change , is your Hb1ac not what you want ? Or is time out of range not what you want ?For me that would be the only factors making me want to change my insulin,

There are other reasons for changing
My hba1c was good and my tir was good
But to achieve that, I had to pre-bolus 45 minutes before eating which was restrictive for my life style - it is not always possible to know what I will be doing in 45 minutes time.

I have been on Novorapid for years but had also heard Fiasp could be quicker. While I had good BG overall I was often spiking after meals. Pre bolusing isn’t very practical for me, so I asked to try Fiasp. I did a trial for a month but in my case it was SLOWER and less predictable. I’ve gone back to Novorapid, as at least I find it reliable in its action. I’m glad I tried it though, because now at least I know.

Thanks all for your replies.
I don't use a pump, and I'm not having problems with Novorapid, apart from it doesn't take effect very quickly, but having said that, I'm often taking it close to when I eat. So, I will try to inject it 30 minutes or so before eating, particularly when my reading is high. Pretty obvious conclusion really!
