Hi all
just been put on insulin 40 units levemir am and 36 units pm ( lots I know)
Also 6 units ( plus 1 extra unit for every 3 points over 10) of novorapid before each meal
Question is how many times can novorapid be injected per day as I have just read about dawn phenomenon and my level seems to spike to 14/15 at around 5 am
thanks for any help

Theoretically as many times as you need to but, and this is a very very big BUT, Novorapid takes 4ish (longer for some) hours to be fully used so basically you do not want to correct until after 4 hours after you have had your last dose as this can cause hypos (which can be dangerous) as there will likely be some unspecified amount still in your system

You should really talk to your diabetic team/nurse and try and sort out a plan for things like dawn phenomenon and roughly how much they recommend for you to try - they have obviously put you on fixed doses so they may just want you to up the breakfast dosage - but please talk to them, given you probably haven't been told much about correction doses or things like that - so it can be dangerous without the correct knowledge

There is no limit to how many injections you can give yourself.
However, it is important to consider the action profile of NovoRapid. It remains active in your body for about 4 hours. Therefore it is often recommended to leave 4 hours between doses.

There's no limit on how many times a day you can inject. Some days I need my quick acting only twice, on other days it can be up to 14 times.

However, it's very important to keep in mind when you last injected. Novorapid works about 4 - 5 hours, and if you take more insulin during that time you have to be aware this still active insulin is also lowering your BG still.

DP hates me, I have tried injecting in the dark, trying to fool my liver into believing I’m still asleep but my liver knows kung fu. After exhaustive research I’ve decided my hot shower makes it worse and a brisk 20 minute walk helps a lot, this is not fun as it means stepping into my clothes and out of the door before I’ve rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. I hope you find a way to avoid the spike in a more gentle way.
