Ive been following low carb ( 70 ish gramms) and low cal ( 750-900 cals) for the last month as an alternative to adding Sitagliptin to my Gliclazide and in that time have managed to halve BM's ( down from average morning BM of over 10 to a regular 5-5.7 for the past 3 weeks) and halve the amount of Gliclizide Im taking.

Recently I was feeling a little light headed after bending over and decided to start testing BP at home again ( on Lisinopril prescribed by hospital consultant) Rang the practice up a few days ago cos my home BP readings have dropped into the low range - spoke to the receptionist who spoke to the doctor who said to come in today and see the nurse. All fine so far

Went in today, nurse started by bitching about her computer not working which meant she couldnt access my records so didnt know why I was there. I explained + she then bitched that the doctors were passing the buck and it was them I needed to see. If I left the graph and table of readings (40+) she could show the doc and tell me what the doc said if I come back next week. I repeated that it was the doc that told me to see her and that I wasn't very happy at wasting my morning

She then tells me the doc is "up to her neck with patients" but if i sit out in the corridor watching the doctors door and tell her when the doctors patient leaves, then she'll pop in to talk to the doc

So there i sit like some mad stalker and after 5 mins or so see some action at the doctors door, (unfortunately a patient going in rather than anyone coming out!). Nursy eventually went in to see the doc and then came back to tell me that the doctors "gut feeling" said I needed to take another weeks worth of readings but they couldnt offer me an appointment next week but I could come back tomorrow if i wanted

what a bluddy waste of time!!. still at least by a very circuitous route it answered my question about whether I needed to be worried about the low BP's - suspect i might just wait for my next hospital appt rather than bother going back to the GP

Great BG's so you are doing brilliantly well done

You are right to be a bit concerned that you are dropping low as the Gliclazide can hypo you if you are not careful. My non professional advice is you should be fine with readings in the 5's but if they start dropping into the low fours then maybe up your carbs a bit until you can talk to the doc about coming off or reducing your Gliclazide (if that's what you are wanting to do). Also make sure you eat something with the Gliclazide as where members have hypo'd on it a couple reported they forgot to eat when they took it or didn't realise they needed to. Gliclazide just stimulates insulin production regardless of whether you need any or not which is why sometimes it can be a problem.
