NUMB

Francis,

Get your doctor to refer you to a podiatrist RIGHT NOW.

It's free for diabetics.

I have lost feeling in my feet too. However I am reassured that if I keep the BGs down, I have may more years before it gets worse.

Yup, you need to have good control to stop it getting worse. Shoe choice is important as you may loose protective sensation (as I have).

Your diabetic team may have to step up treatment in order to lower your HBA1C levels that are very much related to neuropathy.

Look up Alpha Lipoic Acid. It is used for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. Many people will also take Vit B complex to help neuropathy.

Ta, Martin.

I used to take ALAs, better start again!

I use a general multivitamin and mineral tab daily .

The feet are not too bad, I spent serious money on walking boots and am going to Dartmoor in June. Looking forward to some looooooong walks.
:D

If you are walking a lot, your diabetic clinic/surgical appliance officer/ podiatrists might be able to get you legend care socks. (http://www.legendcare.com). These are double lined & flat seemed with elemental silver impregnation (antispetic) and cost about £18 per pair. I can't seem to order them online but google the name and you will get UK based suppliers (as legend care are based in Ireland). My orthotist has got me several pairs.

Th socks are great for high risk feet such as mine. If your neuropathy is not too advanced you might just need them only to use with you walking boots.

Thanks, Marty.

I have good flat seamed walking socks & they come in at 15 quid a pair, so that is not such a jump.

I agree that next to good boots are great socks.

I will take a look.

Ta again.

I wear sports socks towelling side out most of the time. If I wear them the other way it is uncomfortable.

Also I feel it if I wear normal socks with shoes.
