Obesity surgery - a cure for diabetes

Did anyone else hear the programme on Radio 4 this morning?

How should a surgeon respond when obese patients, who have paid privately for weight loss surgery, seek NHS help when that surgery has unexpected consequences?

One of the experts recommended funding the obesity surgery budget by taking from the diabetes budget, as it would have a beneficial effect on diabetes....

Hmmmm. So how do diabetics that are not fat and fat people that are not diabetic fit into that then?
Surely the funding for obesity surgery should be just that, and ring fenced?

Yes, becasue while it is true that the majority of T2 diabetics are fat (including me ) it is not true that most fat people are diabetic.

And as has been said there are a significant number of thin T2's,- including my thin brother, who was diagnosed at the same age as I was, after living a very healthy sporty life! (him not me :lol: )

Obesity is a probem in itself and needs to be treated as such. Fat is one of the last legitimate openly allowed discriminators, and the ill informed press doen't help at all.
