I'm in hospital (again), having to put up with the high-carb hospital menu. This time I have a CGM, so can monitor effects, which are not good, to say the least. For breakfast, I had one slice of buttered brown toast and baked beans, trying to drain off the sauce. Also half of a low-carb protein bar which I brought in. The graph is shooting up.

One thing I've confirmed is stress - including physical pain - raises my glucose level enormously, and I've had prolonged stress.

Another is the libre is out of sync with finger prick results, which have always been higher, sometimes by 10 points, sometimes by more than 20. Hugely disappointing but still the spikes and trends are useful to know.

When I had a hospital stay, four days of......... Then in surgical ward during covid.......
Any who, you don't have to eat the food you are expected to eat.
And even there is some low carb to have.

Ask your family to bring what you can have.
Ask for a salad, even pay for a salad from the hospital shop.
Send out on an app for appropriate delivery of food.

There will be little or none saturated fats with hospital food, which is illogical.
I found the nurses very cooperative with my food choices.

On my stay in the diabetic ward. The food choices from that ward were always high carb. Go figure!

Nine weeks ago today I had a complete reverse shoulder replacement operation , I ate hardly any carbs but my bgs shot through the roof all down to the stress of it all I guess , I had to sign a paper to say I would be looking after my diabetes myself and they said they would not be using my cgm readings as they were unreliable .
