Im very confused with my readings. Ive been in the 5/6s all day. Tested 2 hours after lunch and was 6.2. Walked home and tested just before dinner and was 8.9. Ive eaten nothing since lunch, only had a couple of glasses of water.

I did get a bit of a scare just before testing (jumped started my car and it sparked a lot) could that have done it? Im trying so hard to be good that it gets me down when I have high readings.

It's probably a rogue reading or your hands aren't as clean as normal, only guessing!

Not a lot to worry about. Your fasting blood glucose levels seem ok.

Tested again and im 6.5 now. Diabetes is a minefield! :banghead:
Finding it very frustrating. I usually learn very quickly about anything and this is so unpredictable..

:( sorry to hear that. Yeah im probably worrying about nothing.

If you keep a record, a food diary, you have a history of what is good and what is bad, then when you see your dsn, you can show her how well(?) You have done!!

It's very frustrating. Especially when you feel desperate or just don't know. That's why this is such a good place to be.

Thanks for any help. I had 1/2 tin of rice pudding on Friday sent my glucose thru the roof.....mind you it was loveerly...

An adrenalin rush can raise the levels noticeably. I know, if I get to that wanting to tear up trees angry stage (rare, but it can happen), my numbers will be outside my normal ranges.

It could also have been the walk, if it was brisk, and you're not used to it. As a rule of thumb, gentle exercise, like a stroll, lowers blood scores, but strenuous stuff - name your torture (!) - raises the levels temporarily, then they fall back to achieve a longer term slight lowering.

These are all the things we learn from testing. Of course, some things we never imagined we needed to know!

It will do, it's full of baddies, like carbs and sugars. Yuk!

Well, you're learning very quickly that it's unpredictable! :D
But as already suggested your high reading might have been caused by
  • rogue reading
  • mucky hands
  • adrenalin rush
  • exercise
So you've also learned about four causes for high/odd readings other than eating carby foods.

Don't worry too much about such readings, retest if you feel you should - e.g. if you don't feel right. And instead look for trends and patterns as these will actually be much more useful than the occasional blip.

I had a reading of 9.4 a few weeks ago. I'd eaten low carb all day, however Man City were losing to Liverpool and REALLY p1ssing me off!! I got over it quickly, calmed down and an hour after the game had finished (about 70 mins after my test) I was 5.something! I wouldn't bet my wages on it.. but I am suspicious the bad mood (first world problem!) was to blame. Never happened before or since.

You can probably hear my heart breaking from all the way over there :(

I never knew you were a Stockport fan!!

BS 50 now! :Dseeeeee the stress of you being a Red has sent it racing! So stress may well explain your slightly elevated reading!
