This morning when I injected my Lantis insulin it hurt like buggery the whole time and then I got a large white lump like half a golf ball which has slowly disappeared and gone soft again. I felt sick, shivery and shaky by the time I got to work and I'd gone from 8 to 4.8 within an hour even with eating toast. Any idea what went wrong?
Injected to the right side near my belly button. Plenty of fat there.

A similar thing happens to me, I have very little fat on my tummy so I inject into muscle tissue and that too hurts like hell!

I have a lovely big roll I inject into, I call it my baby pouch as its never shrunk back after pregnancy. No way did I hit muscle.
Nurse specialist suggested if I'm ever injecting again and it hurts then stop, change needle and start again

Parsnips, turnips, swedes-the vegetable not the people.
Also, my diabetes educator told me never to get closer than 4 inches, which you can approximate with your four fingers side to side, to my navel. The vascular there is different and absorption is different than at other places on your abdomen. Cold insulin also can hurt when its going in. I have a lantus solostar pen and I always leave the two pens I am using out of the refrigerator now. I keep them in my purse, then I can inject even if we are out.

I agree with the always stop if it hurts philosophy. Move to a different place at least two inches from where you were and then inject what you have left of your dose.
