- I actually have a severe dislike of taking tablets and as such having T2 Diabetes is something of a disappointment in this regard
Hi,
I was diagnosed with type 2 back in 2008 but suspect I had had type 2 for at least a year or two before that but hadn't been to the docs with any ailments so it was undiscovered until that time. I am on metformin and Sitagliptin and my blood sugar is well controlled in fact I have been turned down for a couple of trials as it is too well controlled? I don't do blood sugar tests very often but just keep to a regular checking regime to see alls well unless I feel under the weather.
My question however relates to a problem I have noticed each year around Oct and November. The problem is that for about 6 weeks my blood sugars go a little haywire instead of being at normal levels they seem to elevate up to around 12 - 15 on the test meter. In past years my GP / Nurse has put this down to the fact that I have my Flu jab in October after which I generally have a couple of weeks feeling a little rough and notice that the blood sugar levels go a bit weird for a few weeks then settle back to normal.
This year I haven't as yet had the flu jab, yet low and behold the same phenomenon has occurred morning bloods are usually between 12 and 13 and during the day they rise and fall as expected with food etc but rarely get below 10?? Obviously as I thought it was explained by the flu jab previously I hadn't really found that it was strange but the fact it has occurred again this year around the same time and without having had a flu jab I find a bit weird! This phenomenon also seems to be accompanied each year by generally feeling lethargic and unwell but nothing specific, Thirst and dry mouth, drying /cracking of the skin around the fingernails and also problems with the foreskin on my penis which also seems to dry a little and crack
My diet etc rarely changes and I eat quite healthily thus I don't feel the issue is caused by myself doing something which makes it happen as apart from these few weeks it all seems to go so well normally?
Does anyone else ever have such problems and if so any ideas why.
