Hi MaryJ!
This happens to me quite a lot - it is very frustrating. Basically, when you tested at 2 hours, your BG was probably still rising (or just starting to rise). There was probably a lot of fat in the meal with the meatballs and creamy sauce on the chicken and this will probably have slowed down the absorbtion of the carb meaning it hit you later. My 3-4 hour reading is quite often higher than the 2 hour reading - sometimes my body just processes the carb later I guess. I'm on insulin, so have the added joy of going hypo before going high because the insulin hits before the carb when this happens and has run out by the time the carb hits  Anyway, as others have said, just put it down to experience. Next time you go out for a meal, it might be worth testing before you go to bed to see if you are high or low at that stage as this will give you a clue what is happening - although I'm not sure what a Type 2 could do about it anyway.
At least you enjoyed your meal!
Smidge
p.s. You could have a second glass of red wine with your meal - I find it amazing at bringing down BG
