Odd reading after low carb meal

Hey all I had tonight what I thought was an almost carb free meal but had a strange reading before bed. I tested my blood before I drove home from work at it was 7.6, got home and made a egg scramble with some onion and slices of ham. A little over 2 hours later when I tested before coming to bed I had rose to 11.4, any ideas?

Hi Stu,
A small onion can have around 7g of carbs in it and eggs have around 1g each. So you could've had about 10g of carbs there. I would've had a similar increase that you just had. A lesson I learned is that you need to count the carbs in everything, not just pasta/bread/rice/etc.

Hey Sam cheers for the reply, I was always under the assumption there wasn't any carbs in eggs. What made the reading strange was I had the same meal the day before and it didn't do anything to my levels.

As far as I know theres a solitary gram in there. I've lost count of the number of times I've eaten the same things on consecutive days but got completely different readings! So many variables go into sugar levels that if one of them is awry, your levels will change. Thats been my downfall in yesteryear.

Protein in the absence of carbs will convert to glucose by around 60%.......which explains the late postprandial bg rise, I would still need to bolus for scrambled eggs/omelette.
