Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I have had type 2 diabetes for quite a few years now and it was successfully controlled with Metformin. My "on rising" readings were always between 5 and 8. Then I had a medical problem, an internal bleed from the oesophagus (sp?)exactly one year ago.
This caused serious problems with my kidneys and liver. Recently my kidney function fell sharply to below the magic figure of 30 and I was immediately taken off Metformin and put on a low dose of Gliclazide, 2 x 40mg morning and 1 x 40 in the evening.
My Bg reading shot up to the 30's and then eventually settled at a reading of aroung 16 to 18 on rising.

It was then decided to double the Gliclazide to 2 x 80mg in the morning and 1 x 80mg in the evening.
Since then (friday) my Bg is in the upper 20s with a "on rising" reading of 18 to 26 !! This has come with an increasing number of visits to the toilet to pee - nearly 1 visit per hour.
To me it seems that an increase in doseage has led to an increase in Bg.

How long should I wait before contacting the doctors surgery do you think. Is this going to settle down? It is worrying me quite a bit to be honest
Thanks

Ooh, that's dreadful, you poor thing
Best see Dr asap
I know illness and stress will raise BG levels, as I've experienced it, also visits to loo..... But I thought that due to increasing amount of water per day
I've recently started 2x gliclazide with breakfast and BG looking good despite stress levels up!
Hope you get better asap

With Kidney possibly Etc. problems, why not talking with your doctor
to possibly apply a Basal-Insulin as Toujeo combined with only the
halve dose of Metformin SR 2x daily maybe 500mg for a good effect
at lower dose.
I would not been waiting long and immediately contact your doctor.
Get the Therapy well adjusted with together by Low-Carb Nutrition
getting into the A1C level of normal healthy humans as I have, for
giving the Kidneys and Liver a chance to recuperate !
Additionally, do you have any infections or inflammations ?

Hello there and welcome to the forum. As others have said up thread, I think a further visit to your GP is the best thing and asap. If your numbers settle down in between getting an appt and actually seeing your GP then there's no harm done and you can cancel the appt.

Welcome to the forum, your concern is understandable. I think you should see your GP as soon as possible. I once had a reading of 23 and the doctor at the "out of hours" clinic didn't think I was being silly seeking advice before my GP's surgery re-opened after the weekend.

I can only speak of my personal experience of Gliclazide and that is, if I skipped a meal, I'd be asking for trouble and would hypo, so I'm suggesting that Gliclazide is pretty good at making the pancreas produce insulin.

I'd be tempted to get a c-peptide test for my own benefit, just to see if the pancreas is doing it's job. The GP might not like you suggesting that but I've gone privately to have the test done. In my case it was just personal re-assurance that my low carb approach would help.

All the best.
